What is Express Entry?
Launched in 2015, Express Entry is a fast-track system designed to help skilled workers apply for permanent residency in Canada. Through this program, applicants enter a pool of candidates and are evaluated based on factors like qualifications, work experience, age, and more. Each candidate receives a score, and the highest-ranking individuals may be invited to apply for permanent residency, often with opportunities supported by prospective employers. Express Entry streamlines the process, making it an efficient pathway for talented individuals to start a new chapter in Canada.
What is a Permanent Resident?
A permanent resident is someone granted permanent resident status in Canada but remains a citizen of another country. While they enjoy many of the same rights and responsibilities as Canadian citizens, they do not hold Canadian citizenship.
Refugees can achieve permanent resident status through programs like the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program or the Government-Assisted Refugee Program. However, claiming refugee status alone doesn’t guarantee permanent residency. The claim must first be approved by the Immigration and Refugee Board, after which the individual can apply for permanent residency.
It’s important to note that international students and foreign workers in Canada are not considered permanent residents.
